Slideshow: Back to the Media Futures

It is all too easy to forget our past media futures, allowing ourselves to be blinkered and focus on the vogue scenarios. Past media futures imagined the telephone used for one-to-many broadcasting, outdoor displays relaying entertainment using mechanical methods, a microfilm-based Wikipedia with hypertext links, holographic projection of drama, and audio piped through headsets on public transport. Some of these futures came to pass, others have yet to be realised, but none appeared in their anticipated form or timescale. Grunsteidl’s show will make us re-assess the futures we are currently being sold.
