Alex Balfour joined the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) as Head of New Media in September 2006. At LOCOG he has launched a number of initiatives including a live audio-visualmap: showing minute-by-minute work in progress across the London 2012 project and a blog.

Balfour co-founded Emerging Media in 2004, which went on to become the leading creator and acquirer of mass market media rights across the growing markets of the Indian sub-continent. He conceived and delivered the world’s first international 2020 cricket tournament which was televised to 200 million viewers in 20 countries.

He also was a co-founder and Chairman of CricInfo, a sports site, building it from a start up into a profitable business with 20 million customers and 65 staff in eight countries. CricInfo was sold to ESPN in the summer of 2007. Alex was also a senior member of a team that built the Guardian newspaper’s site.
